Welcome To Wings Bookstore
Wings Bookstore is proud to be celebrating 10 years in business at 4500 4th Street North in St. Petersburg FL.
It was April 22, 2007 when, after months of watching the building’s progress, the First Unity congregation gathered in the parking lot for the eagerly-awaited Grand Opening traditional ribbon cutting. The front doors opened, and Wings Bookstore was born. Then, it was May 1, 2007 when Wings received its official Certificate of Occupancy from the City of St. Petersburg, marking this date as the first official day of commerce.
We are blessed to claim two birthdays for Wings Bookstore, both holding the energy that Wings embodies: Earth Day and May Day.
Wings Bookstore is a 501(c)(3) non-profit spiritual education center serving St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay area. Located on the east side of First Unity Spiritual Campus, Wings was originally the church bookstore and was owned and operated as a division of First Unity. In early 2015, Wings Bookstore was purchased by Wingspan Foundation, Inc., a group of women who are passionate about the mission and the community it serves.
Classes, events, study groups, and community gatherings are the centerpiece of our ministry. Other activities such as fairs, festivals, and expos are also part of our mission to bring the community together and regularly take place outdoors on our propertyand off-site. Sharon Jebens, founder of Wings Bookstore and President of Wingspan Foundation: “We are a locally-grown, locally-focused organization. Our Foundation brings together the talent of a diverse group of leaders, all passionate about enhancing community ties and leveraging local involvement.”
‘Wings..more than a Bookstore’ encompasses 2,000 sq ft of retail and office space with a covered patio for extended space. A gourmet coffee bar serves locally-roasted Kahwa coffee, and two flavors of Mother Kombucha (also one of St. Pete’s own) are always fresh on tap. A wide selection of books includes spiritual, natural health, personal growth, metaphysics, Eastern philosophies, Native cultures, ecology, and more. Gift items include candles, jewelry, incense, statuary from all cultures, oracle card decks, and greeting cards. Crystals and gemstones occupy a space that consistently lures customers to the west end of the store.
On the opposite side of the store is the Fair Trade Village where shoppers can peruse the handcrafted gifts with confidence. The Fair Trade certification insures fair wages, ecologically-sourced materials, and a commitment to retaining profits in the artisans’ villages. In this department, Wings becomes a partner in conscious global commerce.
Wings Bookstore is dedicated and excited about your spiritual journey, and we want to support you in any way we can. Come in and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, browse our shop, and enjoy a beverage or a light meal in our full-service coffee bar.
